C'mon guys don't you think you'll miss the acid rain if we start saving energy.

This is NOTHING new for GE...GE has been doing this for YEARS..They are just following the Jack Welch motto.

"Keep the head quarters and upper management here in the US..and move ALL manufacturing and Engineering to cheaper labor countries." As long as 30 years ago....GE closed a plant in Ottowa Canada that was only making 16% profit and moved it to Mexico for a profit of 20%. And many many companies have gotten on the Jack Welch bandwagon. He's preached about it in meetings...he's written about it...As I said..this is NOTHING NEW.

I just hate having to take them to a special place to dispose of them. In my neck of the woods that's not your local hardware store, it a 20 minute drive in a place I don't find myself very often so I have to store them to make the trip worthwhile. Storing dead bulbs for 6 months seems a little silly to me.

It has to be economically driven...put a buck deposit on them, let the state keep 10 cents and the redemption center 20 cents...whoever turns them in gets 70 cents.

Put them out in the alley, gone in 5 minutes.

That drives up the price of crap bulbs, which is a good thing. Buying a good bulb is worth it, return is several times investment.

On Dollar Store bulbs...it's an ill whore that blows nobody any good... am sure there are some good cheap bulbs....just as sure many bad cheap bulbs.

The Energy Star rating is taken off and the company not allowed to sell any stock with that label if random tests find them failing under rated hours.

Problem with dollar store stuff is consistency.

Google is your friend...a nice looking bulb on sale cheap, if you find it's rating has been pulled, may not be a bargain.

am sure there are some good cheap bulbs....just as sure many bad cheap bulbs.

The problem today is I haven't found any good cheap anythings ! If it's cheap it either breaks quick or doesn't work at all for me anyway.

Your odds might improve to 88% if you spend a lot of money...or decrease to 92% on the low end.

Almost anything I buy I Google the hell out of...somebody somewhere is talking about it.

I'm lucky to have a knack for keywords...I can find in five minutes what take my brother an hour...but there is info, there are a lot of good closeouts, and there ARE still bargains. May take digging but they are out there .

Yes indeedy! We live on the "Magic Corner". Any old junk we don't want I just put at the corner of the yard. Never seen anything stay there more the 90 minutes. No deposit needed.

Everything I have that can be, is on a dimmer circuit. There are several incandescent that I've not replaced in years.
Dimmers have been around forever, people are just lazy.
I prefer the light (reveals are nice), and ability to dim is key.

I expect I will use LED's elsewhere, as soon as the price drops. They seem to make sense.

I can't say how many times I've seen rooms full of computers, monitors, just cooking away with no one at the terminals.
Not to mention the people who go home and leave their screensavers blazing. Really guys? Because you like the spinning 3d cube that much? Just turn the d*a*m*n thing off already.

Now of course if you are trying to heat the building with them, that works too.

But hey, I never bought an SUV either, so what do I know? 30+mpg for 2+ decades, hundreds of thousands of miles.

GE does sub out some things in the US. Was making gas turbine parts for a while. But for sure a lot of stuff is not made in the US.
